There is something freeing about writing for the sake of writing.
You come up with an idea. It may be something fully formed, or just the vaguest of thoughts. You grab a notebook or open up the computer, and just write. You let the words flow and wait to see where this idea takes you.
There is no expectation of writing a novel or even a complete short story.
There is no expectation that anyone else will ever see it.
You are writing purely for you. For the joy of thinking a thought and dreaming a dream. For the fun of simply putting your idea down on paper.
Yes, you are writing, you are creating, you are making something.
In that moment, you aren’t doing it for pressure of a bestseller, or even a completed novel. You are simply there, in the moment, creating, letting the idea flow.
It may be a hot mess; it may be the best thing you’ve ever written. In that moment, it doesn’t matter.
You are there, creating, without an agenda, without thinking too much about it.
It’s not about writing a book that will be published or creating a story to pass your English class. It’s just about writing and creating.
You are in the moment.
Words with the sole purpose of getting that story out of your head and onto the page.
One day, it may be a book or a story that you can publish.
But not today. Today it’s simply to be. To write. To create.
Simply for the joy of creating.
Write without purpose, without agenda, without thinking too much. Be in the moment and see what happens.
For me, this is mindfulness, this is being in the moment, this is writing for the sake of writing. This is part of writing for wellbeing. How often do you write for the sake of writing?
