Writing & day job

Writing & day job

Right now, I have a day job – I work as the business manager for my family’s business. The business runs conferences and does the administration for a number of not-for-profit organisations.

I dream of the day my books will be my living, however I know that right now, I need a regular income to make ends meet.

My first book, Swallow Me, NOW! is due out in October, and I’m hoping to launch my next book early next year, so I’m well on my way.

Juggling writing and a day job can sometimes be a struggle. It’s quite frustrating when I get a story idea on my way to work and have to sit on it all day until I can write it down. More often than not, by the time I sit down to write, the idea has flown away. Often a new idea has taken its place.

I also scribble down ideas on any scrap of paper I can find so they don’t disappear completely. My kids are used to me saying “Quick, write this down” while handing them a pen and scrap of paper so I can keep driving while the idea is written down!!
