Yesterday, we had our first Writers Group session since COVID-19 caused Victoria to lock down in 2020.
I was excited to be driving down the freeway to Melbourne to catch up with the members of the Monash Young Writers Group as well as the amazing staff at the Monash Library in Mount Waverley. Virtual sessions were fun, but not quite the same as being able to meet up face to face.
We were able to have our favourite writing prompt – the chocolate prompt! As we had escaped lockdown, we were writing stories with an escape theme.
Other than the fact a few of us spent the whole time chatting and catching up, there were some great stories written, including stories about people escaping from inside chocolate bars, to people escaping after being trapped in a chocolate factory.
One thing I love about this prompt is that it doesn’t matter how many times we do this prompt, there are so many different stories written as a result. No two stories are ever the same.
I was so glad the group started yesterday and not next week as we were greeted with the news this afternoon that Victoria is headed for a five day lockdown, due to end on Wednesday, but may be extended if the latest outbreak of COVID-19 isn’t under control!
With all things being open again in a fortnight, I can’t wait to have writers group again. It’s so much fun and the kids are writing some fantastic stories. It’s also great to dig out my boxes of writing prompts again. For dates, details, and to book, click here.
