Worth Reading: Gnoming About

May 4, 2026 | Blog, Worth Reading

This weeks book worth reading is Gnoming About: Tree Mail Adventure by Liv Lorkin.

Three gnomes, Daisy, Lucky, and Rocky, are on the hunt for a missing gnome. They need to retrace his steps, find some postcards, and spot some mushrooms, but not everything is as easy as they first think it is.

I haven’t really go in to graphic novels. I shared The Bad Guys books with my kids, but otherwise, they haven’t really appealed to me, mostly because they have felt darker than I want to read right now. This graphic novel is delightful. It’s fun and bright and the gnomes are cheeky are enjoyable. I also love the illustrations. They are cute and whimsical and there are details in there if you take the time to look. I know I spent time reading all the postcards to see where they came from, hoping to see my town (I didn’t, but did see other places I recognised).

I showed the cover of this book to the kids at writers’ group last week and told them about the story and they all think it sounds amazing, so this book got the thumbs up from them as well. This is a group of kids age 8-18 who often struggle to find things that they want to read. While this graphic novel isn’t marketed at teenagers, many said they wanted to read it.

This book has a fun story, delightful illustrations, and will be a great read for kids. It may also inspire them to send a letter or postcard to someone.

I received a copy of this book from Books on Tour.
