May was a quiet month for reading. I read two audiobooks and a chapter book, as well as making progress on some longer reads.
One thing I enjoy about doing the Young Writers Groups the fact that each one is at least an hour’s drive away from home, so I can enjoy audiobooks. Many of these are books that I’ve been wanting to read, but haven’t been able to get to yet.
The first audiobook was The Grandest Bookshop in the World by Amelia Mellor. This is a middle grade book that was big in 2020 and so many have been raving about. I was pleased to see it was available to listen to as it’s been sitting on our bookshelf for ages. I enjoyed it, however didn’t find it as amazing as some others had. I found it a bit darker than I was expecting.
The second audiobook was The Power of Positive Pranking by Nat Amoore. I seem to be listening to this series backwards! I really enjoyed this story, although the narrator wasn’t as enjoyable as the one for The Right Way to Rock (the third book in the series and the first one I listened to). This was a fun story with some powerful messages.
The chapter book I read was The Poison Plot by Frances Watts. This is Sword Girl book 2 and was another fun story about Tommy and her team saving the day against a plot the grown ups hadn’t discovered.
I also made progress on both The Jam Queens by Josephine Moon and All That Happened at Number 26 by Denise Scott.
According to GoodReads, I’ve read 36 of 50 books for the year so far.
How did you go during May?
