Reviewing older books

Sep 11, 2020 | Blog

I review books over on my Read for Fun blog. Many of the reviews are new releases that have been sent to me as part of blog tours or from publishers looking for reviews for their books. However, I also review books that aren’t new releases.

These books could be books on my bookshelf or in my To Be Read pile, or books I’ve picked up somewhere that looks good, or even a book that my nephews share with me. These books could be a couple of years old, or a classic story that I haven’t discovered until recently.

Recently, I was asked why I review books that aren’t new releases on my blog. I review most books I read on GoodReads, but not every book is on my blog too.

The simple answer is that there are amazing books out there that more people need to find out about, plus, why stick to only new releases? I don’t stick to new releases in my regular reading, so why stick to them in reviews?

I also know that I love finding books that are new to me, no matter how old they are, and then telling people about them. Most books I read are ones that rarely feature on bestseller lists or on awards lists. This doesn’t mean they are any less deserving of support. As long as a book is still in print, or can be found in libraries, I’m happy to read them, review them, and tell everyone about them.

If you write reviews on GoodReads or have a blog or YouTube channel that reviews books, don’t forget about the amazing books that aren’t new releases and review them too.
