My Picture Book Collection

Jan 30, 2021 | Blog

I have a collection of picture books. It didn’t start out as a collection, just books to share with my kids, however, it has grown over the years.

It was in 2012 when I started collecting picture books for me rather than the kids. I was writing a princess book and hadn’t read one for a while, so I headed to the bookshop to get some princess books.

With my kids, I would buy books based on their interests. We have a pile of books about pirates, dinosaurs, and trains, but not too many about princesses!

Around the same time, I discovered Pozible and some amazing picture books by indie authors. Knowing I would be a published author one day, I started buying some of these books, partly as research, but also to support authors who were just starting out.

Over the years, my collection has grown with amazing books. I have some classics that either my kids loved or I loved when I was a kid. Most of my purchases have been books by indie authors and small publishers, as well as books that mean something special to me. Very few of the books in my collection have appeared on Best Seller lists or have won awards, but that doesn’t matter to me. I love finding amazing books that not enough people have heard of, then telling people about them at every opportunity.

I also get sent books to review on Read for Fun. Most of these books end up either back in my collection, or pinched by my nephews!!

This morning I was interviewed on ABC Gippsland about my collection and have been challenged to count the books in my collection. I’ve also been toying with the idea of blogging about the books. This wouldn’t be a review, more the story behind the book and why it’s in my collection, as well as a bit of a review. Is this something you’d be interested in hearing about?

Either way, I will check in once I know how many books are in my collection…
