Written something you hated?

Written something you hated?

At the time, yes, I have. There have been some stories that I thought were great at the time, and now not so much.

I recently found a file that had a number of stories I had written years ago. Some of them I had hated at the time, but reading them again about 20 years later, they aren’t bad and might be worth revisiting. There are some that I thought were great at the time, but now I see they are rubbish.

Even now, there are some pieces I write that I hate. These often don’t see the light of day as I delete them or shred them before anyone can read it.

Recently, however, a musician friend advised my son never to throw out anything he had composed. This is great advice for writing too. I must remember to keep those pieces I hate – you never know, one day they may be worthy of being edited into something great.
