Free Books from the Library

May 3, 2023 | Blog

We all know that we can get free books by borrowing them from the library, but did you know there are often other opportunities for free, or cheap, books from the  library?

I’m a big believer in buying books from bookshops or borrowing from libraries so that authors get paid, however I’m also used to being a booklover on a low income…

Many libraries will have a ‘free books’ box or a place they have books they’ve taken off their shelves very cheap. These are a great opportunity to add to your own library.

There is another advantage.

Sometimes I find library shelves overwhelming with choice, not to mention bookshops, or even second hand shops. There are so many books to choose from. These tables or boxes with books that the library is moving on can be a great way to pick up some books you may not have previously considered.

Lately, there have been a few books that I picked up that I probably wouldn’t have picked up before including a Pearlie book by Wendy Harmer, and the Marshmallow Pie books. I also found one of the books in the Lunar Chronicles series I was reading. These were fun books that may not have caught my eye if not for the fact they were on these tables.

The offerings can be hit or miss, sometimes none of the books appeal, other times there can be quite a few that look interesting.

Next time you’re at the library and they have a table or box of books, have a look, you never know what you may find and you can give these books a new reader. You may also find your next favourite author, I’ve done that too.
