Do you celebrate a white Christmas?

Dec 11, 2014 | Q & A

Christmas stockingsI live in Australia, and here, December is in Summer.

Usually Christmas is hot and we celebrate with a BBQ or cold meat and salad, along with getting all the family outside for some backyard cricket or other outdoor game, although some years it’s too hot to go outside and we all huddle in the one room that has an air conditioner!

We are in Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria. Melbourne is renowned for its unpredictable weather, so there have been some years when Christmas has been cold. One year, there was snow on the mountains!! The photo on the front page of the newspaper that year was fire engines that had been fighting bushfires in the middle of snow covered trees.

In spite of that, I have never had a white Christmas. One day, it would be fun, but for now, I’m happy with my Summer Christmas as that is where my family is.
