Today is my birthday! When looking for ideas for blog posts, I came across this book tag on the Zezee With Books blog. So, here goes. Where possible, I’ve chosen books I’ve read since my last birthday.
Birthday Cake: A book with a plot that seems cliche, but you adore it anyway
Romance books are quite cliche, they follow the same formula, but I enjoy them anyway. I adore the books by Nicki Edwards. They have strong female characters, great settings, and interesting twists. I’m not all that interested in sport, but did enjoy the Off the Field trilogy. Settle the Score is the second in the series. I also read and enjoyed The Last Quarter this year.
Party Guests: Your most anticipated book release for this year
I discovered the books by Victoria Purman a few years ago and have loved every one. When I saw The Nurses War was coming out, I knew I had to read it. I’m currently about half way through and really enjoying it so far.
Birthday Presents: A book that surprised you with how much you loved it
I read Maternal Instinct by Rebecca Bowyer earlier this year, after it had been sitting on my shelf for a few years. Dystopian isn’t a genre I usually read, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I really enjoyed this book and have recommended it to quite a few people.
‘Happy Birthday’ Song: A book that certainly deserves all the hype it got
This one was hard as I tend to steer clear of books that have been hyped up. Paws by Kate Foster may not have been as hyped as others, but it is one I’ve seen everywhere. I was so excited to read it, I ordered it at two libraries! It’s a fantastic story that lives up to the hype and needs more so that more people read it.
Happy Music: A book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes
I’m not a big one for memorising quotes in books, or in general. I didn’t know what book to choose, so have chosen a picture book, Pear of Hope by Wenda Shurety and Deb Hudson. This is a beautiful book that won the Forevability awards this year. It is a stunning picture book with a powerful message.
Getting Older: A book that you read a long time ago, but you think you would appreciate more if you read it as a more mature reader
There are so many books I could include here. Recently, I discovered The Naughtiest Girl in the School by Enid Blyton on the Borrow Box app and started listening to it. I remember loving it as a child, that one and the whole series. It’s interesting hearing it as an adult and noticing things I didn’t notice as a child.
Sweet Birthday Memories: A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life
I couldn’t think of a single book that kept me incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of life as it’s books in general… however picture books are always my happy place. I love how the words and illustrations work together to tell an amazing tale that appeals to people of all ages. Diary of a Wombat by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley is special to me as I love wombats too.
