Making Progress on a new story

Feb 22, 2022 | Blog

The other day, I posted that I was getting back to using 750words.com to work on a new story. The thing I didn’t mention was that when I first got into writing chapter books, my kids were 8 and 10, and they would get up in the morning and ask to read my new chapter.

On Sunday, I contacted my 10yo nephew to ask if he would like to read my chapters. He was very happy to read these, so I sent him the first three chapters.

While I haven’t heard back from him with any feedback, yet, but knowing that he has those chapters and will want the next few chapters soon, is giving me some added incentive to keep writing.

With these two things in place – 750 words and my nephew – I am making progress. I have written five chapters about a Book Dragon. This idea came as part of Virtual Writers Group last week! I told the kids this morning that I was working on a chapter book as a result of the session last week, and they were really excited too.

I have no idea if this story will be traditionally or self-published, it’s no where near that stage yet, after all, it’s only 5 chapters in, about a quarter of the story, so watch this space.

I am really excited about a project that is taking shape one chapter at a time.

One of the things I’ve been finding frustrating with this, is that I stopped writing books using this method. It seems to work really well for me to get stories written!

I’m enjoying this story taking shape, and returning to the methods that are working to get the words written and that there’s another book that will be in the hands of kids one day.
