You Want Me To Write WHAT?

Aug 8, 2021 | Blog, Books, Short Stories

I love writing short stories, the sillier the better. I run writing groups with young writers where I get the opportunity to flex my short story writing muscles, however I am the one who sets the prompt…

My awesome nephews have had fun setting me writing prompts and I have stories involving things like talking watermelons, ninja piranhas, and evil octopuses (or is it octopii?). This all started during the Victorian lockdown in 2020, and has continued.

I’ve been having so much fun writing these stories – did you know that watermelons don’t have ears? – that I had the bright idea of publishing a short story collection with these stories. So far, each story is around 1000 words and is tested on my nephews, aged 4-12, to make sure they are fun for kids. In order to publish a book, I need some more stories!

So, I’m asking for your help.

I’m inviting the kids of Australia to help set me some writing prompts to create this book.

To help, it’s simple:

  • Think of a writing prompt – it could be a story starter, random words, last line, writing prompt, or something else to inspire a story
  • Fill in your name, age, and state (from 2-12)
  • Fill in your parents name and an email address
  • There is room to add anything else you may want to tell me. For example, with some of the stories my nephews have suggested, I have used them as the main character, such as Wesley and the Ninja Piranha. If you would like to be the main character, tell me a bit about yourself

Your email address will be used to keep you updated on this project. No details will be shared with anyone outside this project.

If I choose your prompt and the story is in the book, I will contact you for your address so I can send you a copy to say Thank You.

I look forward to receiving your suggestions and having fun with silly stories.
