Wishing I was back at school…

Oct 23, 2011 | Blog

Now, I hated high school. I don’t have the best memories of the time I spent there, but there are some days I wish I was back in school…

It’s not every subject, just English. One thing I appreciated (now, not then) is the discipline of writing something, handing it in to the teacher for feedback, then working on the piece again, making it better.

Writing at home on my own is hard. I can write something and edit it, but there is only so much I can edit. Also, if I’m stuck I remember going to the teacher for help and bouncing ideas of him or her. Thinking about it now, I must have been really annoying! But the results are sitting on my shelf in the form of trophies for writing awards.

I work at a school, but in the Music department. I have been tempted to hand some of my work to one of the English teachers, but that may be a bit cheeky as I know how much work they have.

So, I guess I need to be content with getting some feedback via blog posts and family and friends until I get to the stage where the piece is complete enough to hire an editor.

I have been searching to see if there is a local writers group to get some support and feedback, but I haven’t found one yet… but I haven’t given up.
