Do you have any pets?

Our pet lizard

This week, I’m moving away from questions about Swallow Me, NOW! to answering a more personal question: Do you have any pets?

Technically, I don’t have a pet, however my 10 year old has a pet blue tongue lizard called Jazz. She has been with us now for about three years and is a surprisingly good pet. I wasn’t that keen on having a lizard as a pet to start with, however Mr Z loves them.

She lives in a terrarium in the lounge room and eats meal worms twice a day along with vegetables, bananas, smoothies and snails. Once or twice a year, she sheds as she grows, making a huge mess of scales that Mr Z has to clean up.

Jazz likes getting out of her cage to explore the house and has been known to help me as I write and edit my books. It’s interesting trying to write with a lizard running across my keyboard! She is a wonderful pet, and I’m sure she’ll feature in a book or story in the future.
